Introducing… Our kit Design Award 2008 Finalists

Earlier this year, Kit Cosmetics put the call out to design students for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to design product packaging for Kit ’s new limited edition product range. In its inaugural year, the Kit Design Award 2008 garnered over 100 entries from design students around Australia (and further abroad). You can read all about our winner Erin Morris here, and below you can meet our two finalists Lily Tidhar (student of Monash University) and Jessica Singh (hailing from Central St Martins college of Art and Design).

Meet Finalist Lily Tidhar

kit: What do you enjoy about design?
Lily: Having the freedom to respond to briefs completely graphically and creatively, and the challenge of communicating something in a visually beautiful but simultaneously comprehensive way.

kit: How did you come up with your concept for the competition?
Lily: I wanted to communicate a sense of exploration and discovery, finding something exciting and colourful in the distance.

kit: What inspires you when you are designing?
Lily: Old children's books and typography

kit: What are your favourite kit products?
Lily: L’annine body cream

the smiley range

Lostmarc'h eau de toilette

Lostmarc'h Din Dan body lotion

Korres almond leave in conditioner

Korres shea butter hair mask

Mario Badescu alpha grapefruit cleansing lotion

Mario Badescu buttermilk moisturiser

Mario Badescu kiwi face scrub.

Meet Finalist Jessica Singh

kit: How did you come up with your concept for the competition?
Jessica: When I first read the brief my initial thoughts sprung back to my childhood, crawling through the garden, inventing magical worlds. As I child I loved the book The Magical Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton, where different lands would float by on clouds. My imagination went crazy thinking of castles in the sky, floating balloons, creatures of flight. I wanted to capture the whimsy and beauty of colors and imagination.

kit: What inspires you when you are designing?
Jessica: I could go on forever! For me music and art is very linked, I am obsessed with the beauty of lyrics. Often when I am out and about with my ipod listening to amazing music an image comes to my mind, and i have to try and get it down as quickly as possible before I get. I can't work in silence! Some musical artists that never fail to inspire me are Bjork, Joanna Newsom, Regina Spektor, Cocorosie, Bright eyes, Elliot Smith, Emiliana Torrini and many many more.

kit: What are your favourite 10 kit products:
Jessica: mario badescu silver powder

korres under-eye hibiscus serum

cosmedicine Healthy Cleanse toner & cleanser

smiley eau de toillette

pop glitter sticks

hei poa monoi hair mask

kit nail color in vivid cyan

pop beauty eye cakes

too faced retractable kabuki brush

the balm translucent powder

kit: What are your goals/plans for the future (within design)?
Jessica: hopefully just illustrating and collaborating with amazing people and trying not to rely on too much caffeine in the process!
